Citrus County Feeding Alliance

Every year the Lecanto Ward partners with other community leaders in an effort to feed hungry families in our county. The ward is organizing volunteers to help pass out food on the day of the Thanksgiving Feed. The Relief Society is also setting up a "Self Reliance" booth where lots of information will be provided to those interested.

Contact Sister Fulford if you are looking to help with the R/S project and Brother Avery if you are wanting to volunteer to help pass out the food.

November Visiting Teaching Theme

We can pick any conference talk for our November visiting teaching message. For our November V/T workshop, we made origami flowers based on this talk! Enjoy!

You tube video for President Urchtdorf's talk part 1:

Part 2:

Origami Forget me Not flowers

We had a challenging but fun project for our November Craft. We made forget me not flowers to complement President Urchtdorf's "Forget Me Not" talk from the women's conference in September.

Nancy taught us the "Square" fold a little differently than these instructions, and it seemed to work a lot better than these instructions. (But it was the most difficult part of the project). So if something isn't going right for your flower--then it may be the square fold!!!

September is Millennial Month

Instead of a Millennial Day this year, our stake is doing a Millennial Month. Sister Fulford would like us all to read and ponder this conference talk: The Holy Temple, A Beacon to the World.

Let's start brainstorming and preparing on how we can improve our temple attendance during the month of September!

June Visiting Teaching

I just finished inputting the June visiting teaching information for the reports turned in by our 5 lovely zone leaders today. Here's the report that returnandreport.org generated for us. On about July 15th, everyone that I have an email address for, will get an automatic email with a link to their JULY report. Take 30 seconds and fill this information in for us. This helps us get our reporting done early in the month. Thanks so much sisters for all your hard work!!!!!

Return and Report

We recently found a program at www.returnandreport.org that attempts to automate the visiting teaching process.

We have uploaded the visiting teaching routes and will "test" this program for the next 3 months (July, August, September).

If it helps with visiting teaching, let us know--so that we can decide if we want to use it permanently.

Each month you will get 2 emails from the program (assuming I have your email). One email on the 15th reminding you to do your V/T; and 1 email a few days before the end of the month--asking you to report.

I have already sent out 1 email with July's Visiting teaching routes (Lots of changes)--so if you didn't get an email it's because I don't have your email.

Hospice Pillow Service Project

Today's newspaper page A15 Citrus Chronicle:

LECANTO--The women of the Relief Society at the Lecanto Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints sewed and stuffed 110 neck and back pillows for their National Day of Service, which is May 14th. The group has worked for several months to make these pillows to be given to the patients of Hospice of Citrus County. They dedicated these pillows to Hospice of Citrus County on Monday, May 9th. By the generosity of this group many patients will have comfort from these pillows. Pictured from left to right are: Carole Smith, Lori Mannis, Pam Lund, Carmen Roman, Lori Basore, Lucy Waller, Kim Fulford, and Awilda Valle.

Week 4 challenge: The Living Christ

"He walked the roads of Palestine, healing the sick, causing the blind to see, and raising the dead. He taught the truths of eternity, the reality of our premortal existence, the purpose of our life on earth, and the potential for the sons and daughters of God in the life to come. He insttituted the sacrament as a reminder of His great atoning sacrifice."

Week 3 challenge

Though sinless, he was baptized to fulfill all righteousness. He went about doing good (Acts 10:38), yet was despised for it. His gospel was a message of peace and good will. He entreated all to follow his example"

Week 2: Living Christ Challenge

Robyn Kanis is hosting a food storage Tasting party

Sister Kanis is a representative from Shelf Reliance--a food storage supplier. She is having a tasting party in March and everyone is welcome to attend. You can sample the food storage before buying--so it takes the risk out of the purchase! It's also fun to gather with others and come up w/ creative ways of incorporating food storage into our family's menu plans!!!

In fact, I'm using Taco TVP to make nachos for my family today--and I got the Taco TVP from Shelf Reliance. Easy and yummy!

Get with Sister Kanis if you need more information, or click on this picture of the invite--to see the information in greater detail. She would like a head count in advance, so she knows how much food to prepare--so let her know. You can invite your friends and neighbors as an opportunity to figure out another way of storing food!!!

Why Memorize?

“I have discovered that many times you don’t fully understand a scripture until you memorize it. And sometimes I have memorized a passage because it seemed important and valuable to me—then afterwards I discovered deeper meanings that I hadn’t even known were there. When you find a passage that particularly impresses you, consider taking the time to commit it to memory, word perfect. Then not only will you be able to remember it, but you will probably grow in your understanding as well. But that’s not all. By memorizing scripture you show the Lord that you esteem his words to be of great value—and then He will be more likely to speak to you and give you more.” (Elder Gene R. Cook, Searching the Scriptures, pg.14)

Memorize "The Living Christ"

Week 1's challenge:

“As we commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ two millennia ago we offer our testimony of the reality of His
matchless life and the infinite virtue of His great atoning sacrifice. None other has had so profound an influence
upon all who have lived and will yet live upon the earth.”
