Day of Service Information

Profile of the Day of Service Event

Name and Place

1. “CHIPS”, Citrus Hearing Impaired Program Services.

Location and Time

2. Start Time: 8 am, Saturday April 24, 2010.

Address

109 N.E. Crystal Street
Suite B
Crystal River, Florida 34428

Detailed Description

3. Detailed Instructions:

The Lecanto Ward volunteer army will be partnering with CHIPS representative volunteers, the Lion’s Club volunteers, the Key Center Plant Nursery, the City of Crystal River, and Citrus County Administrator Brad Thorpe to perform plant installation and beautification labor at the Lion’s Club/CHIPS location. We will assign a group of volunteers, including the youth, to plant flowers and Florida native plants per our landscape plan design on the left/west side of the CHIPS office train car. In between the train car we will be putting in a flower garden along with other Florida native plants and mulch. We will also be installing dirt to level out the middle of the west side of the CHIPS office ground to avoid runoff. We will assign a group of priesthood from the Elder’s Quorum and High Priest Group to perform pressure washing of the train car offices opposite where plants are being installed simultaneously, to begin on the East side of the CHIPS second parallel office car. We will have another group of volunteers sand the 2 wooden walkway entrances to CHIPS so they can be properly re-stained thereafter by said group. We hope to complete the work by 2 pm and then have a lunch that will be provided by donation, in coordination with CHIPS and a local ward member assignment.

From our Employment Specialist

The Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, New Mexico will be hiring approximately 1,100 young men and women over the age of 18, to work as staff in a wide variety of settings such as: backcountry guide, conservation, ranch development, food service, office support, news and photo service, security, and medical to name a few.

The Young Men and Primary General Presidencies for the Church will be present to train stake presidencies and their families during two of the weeks this year. The General Young Men’s President, David Beck has asked LDS Employment to help them recruit more LDS applicants for the 2010 program . All applicants, member and non-member are encouraged to apply and the scout ranch will make no effort to give any preference in their selection process. For LDS staff at Philmont, there are regular Church services and activities under the direction of the Ranch LDS Chaplain.

The summer staff will earn approximately $949/month plus room and board. In some cases, college credit can be earned and scholarships are offered to staff members as well. The majority of summer employment contracts run from mid May to August 22nd making this a good summer income for college students. Employees will need to provide their own transportation so we hope that our ERCs in the neighboring states of Colorado, Texas and Arizona will make a good effort to promote this to their young job seekers.
