Forrest "Sparky" Strickland (1925-2010)

The Service of Remembrance for Mr. Forrest S. "Sparky" Strickland, age 85, of Inverness, Florida, will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 25, 2010, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Lecanto, with Bishop Robert Hoki presiding. Interment will follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida. The family will receive friends from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the Church. Sparky was born February 27, 1925, in Ozona, FL, son of the late Daniel and Lillian (Beville) Strickland. He died June 20, 2010, in Inverness, FL. Mr. Strickland was an Army veteran serving during World War II. He worked in commercial and industrial construction, installing asbestos. He was a lifelong resident of Florida. He was the Past Bishop of two congregations in Tampa, FL, and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Lecanto.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Naomi Strickland, of Inverness, FL; son, Forrest Michael Strickland of Kissimmee, FL; 4 daughters, Stephanie Marlene Oldfield of Orange Park, FL, Lillian Elizabeth Branson of Inverness, FL, Mary Shirlene Ross of Orange Park, FL, and Sherri Lynne Schneider of Inverness, FL; 18 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Inverness Chapel of Hooper Funeral Homes & Crematory.
